Yusufali, who is the May Division B champion, overcame Mujtaba Salem’s resistance to win his semi-final match 2-0 in dominant style in the Sameer Essajee-sponsored event.
The on-form Yusufali repeated his May good form to win all his matches in two straight sets and now he has to test his skills against March champion Valambia as both know how it is difficult to become a champion.
The captain started the game slowly, but came back strongly and he needed to pot a pink ball in the first frame to win. In the second frame Yusufali was uncompromising and he exchanged some beautiful moments with his rival.
But he needed a blue ball to finish the game and he did not waste any time to force Salem to give up. Snooker enthusiasts will be blessed to watch a wonderful Division B final as both players are in good form this month.
Yusufali missed the final in June as Valambia, who was promoted to Division A after winning the March event before returning to Division B in the May tournament, will enter his first final since March.
The duo are each searching for a second title this year. Yusufali maintained his fine form to book a place in the semi-final by overcoming Mukesh Joshi 2-0 in the quarter-final.
The captain, who is yet to lose a frame in this month’s event, had earlier ousted sponsor Sameer Essajee by straight 2-0 victory.
Salem displayed an excellent game to win his quarterfinal match against Sajaad Salehbhai to book a date with Yusufali but could not make it and has to wait until next month to see if his dream of playing his first final will come true.
Valambia progressed to the Division B final after seeing off Ashik Merchant by 2-1 frames victory in a tough match.
He had earlier beaten tough contender Mukesh Kanabar 2-0. The Division B title is open after June champion Hussein Zavery, a Cape Town University student, missed this month event after returning to South Africa.
He won his final match against Tosh 2-1. None has managed to win the Division B title back to back and under the current situation nothing is going to change.
The division A campaign started last night with Suman Mandalia scheduled to confront Ashok Lavingia, while Raju Kanabar was in action against Akil Akberali. The tournament ends on September 1.
