Women entrepreneurs urged to make use of MWEI

Speaking in his office , Morogoro Regional Commissioner, Joel Bendera, explained that through the project, the society has experienced remarkable social and economic development, adding that Vodacom stands out as a good example in empowering women and entrepreneurship through the project.

Bendera was speaking when he hosted officials from Vodacom Foundation, who had visited him to give an update on MWEI developmental projects in Morogoro.
“Vodacom has done a great job in supporting women in this country. I am grateful for what you have done to improve lives and I trust you shall continue with the same spirit,” said Bendera, adding that, “MWEI project has completely changed lives for women in Morogoro for the better.”

The Regional Commissioner noted that those that do not have access to banking services which can provide business capital are now set to make use of MWEI.“I call upon all women entrepreneurs to make good use of MWEI for it is a sure way of earning a living and supporting themselves,” explained Bendera.

On her part, Grace Lyon, Vodacom Foundation Manager, explained that through the women initiative, women are able to get interest-free loans through M-Pesa in order to start new businesses or boost existing ones.

 “We expect to reach to as many as 200 women entrepreneurs through this visit. The Foundation is committed to empower women through entrepreneurship for it goes a long way in building the economy of the country. So far the Foundation has launched more than 130 projects throughout the country,” said Lyon.

Vodacom’s External Affairs Manager, Salum Mwalimu also said that the company values the society and its customers and it shall continue to invest in projects that aim to make lives better.

“We shall continue to offer the best products and services in this market. Our customers mean a lot to us and we shall stand by them in every way possible,” said Mwalimu.
This is the second time Vodacom Foundation is visiting Morogoro for MWEI project activities, the first being in 2010.
