Uyui DC lauds tobacco firm for desks donation

Speaking at a desks handover ceremony at Ilalwansimba Primary School in Isikizya Ward, Uyui District, where TLTC donated part of its 175 desks worth 15.75m/- to be distributed in primary and secondary schools in the district, the DC said the company was an example of a good corporate citizen.

Ms Mayenga said many companies operate businesses in Uyui District, making huge profits, such as banks and co-operative unions, but none shared their profits with communities where they operate.TLTC donated 50 desks to Ilalwansimba Primary School in Isikizya Ward at a handover ceremony also attended by many district dignitaries.

The tobacco company’s Director of Treasury and Administration, Mr Silvester Kapungu, said TLTC was making donations because they felt they are part of development partners in the district. During the past crop season, for instance, TLTC purchased 4.5 million kilogrammes of tobacco from farmers worth USD 8,310,951 (13bn/-) Mr Kapungu said, adding that the company had consequently paid out 648.3m/- in levies to the Uyui District.
