TAHA launches three advocacy projects

In a press release issued in Dar es Salaam, TAHA Executive Director Jacqueline Mkindi said that the projects are mainly geared towards advocating policy reforms and operational challenges affecting the competitiveness of the industry.

She said the idea is to address the needs of the industry stakeholders and respond to various aspects key to boost Tanzania horticulture, financial resources as well as building internal capacity. TAHA has engaged BEST-AC in mobilizing the required support in terms of research and communication capacity to implement the projects.

BEST-AC is a grant programme that assists business membership organizations to create a better business environment. The grant enables the member organizations to develop internal capacity to be able to engage in a positive dialogue with the government with the view to review policies, laws and regulations.

According to Mkindi, the projects focus on incentive package which will involve compiling a wish list of incentives to be presented to the government for consideration and endorsement. Another area is the establishment of a horticulture industry bonded warehouse system and enhancing the horticultural sub-sector in planning of implementation of District Agricultural Development Plans (DADPs).

She said TAHA will develop data on the potentials of the horticultural industry at Local Government Administration (LGAs) level and also influence the central government to consider horticulture as a key sub-sector.

The project will focus on eight districts, namely Arumeru, Karatu, Moshi Rural, Hai, Lushoto, Njombe, Mvomero and Kilosa. Established in 2004, TAHA is an apex private sector member-based organization dedicated and committed to develop and promote horticultural industry in Tanzania. One of the key areas that TAHA is focusing on is to ensure a conducive business environment for horticultural businesses.
