The body of the deceased, identified as Mhono Simon aged between 25 and 30 years of age was later set ablaze, according to the Special Police Zone Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP), Justus Kamugisha.

According to the RPC, in an attempt by the deceased to escape from police officers on a motorcycle along Tarime- Musoma highway way in Mika, the deceased dropped the shotgun he was carrying shortly before he was arrested by police officers who were pursuing him together with another man who escaped.

According to ACP Kamugisha, “they fired in air as they tried to escape on the motorcycle. They dropped a shotgun. Many villagers turned up to help the police chase them and ended up apprehending the deceased. Efforts by police to stop the mob from harming the suspect failed.”

“They cut his body with machetes and after he died they set him ablaze along with the motorcycle “, ACP Kamugisha said on Friday. The deceased was a resident of Getenga village in Tarime, the police statement said. The incident occurred on Wednesday at Mika village in the neighbouring Rorya district, according to the RPC.

“We are still looking for the suspect bandit who escaped and we urge more cooperation from members of public but they should also refrain from taking law into their own hands”, the regional police chief said. Meanwhile, two other men died in two separate incidents in Tarime, according to ACP Kamugisha.

He named the deceased as Marwa Mathias (39), a peasant at Gibasso village who committed suicide for reason unknown and Samweli Maswi (17), a resident of Serengeti district who drowned in Sidiwi River. Both incidents happened on Wednesday, according to RPC statement.
