In an earlier match at the same venue, Group A leaders Dangers were upset 3-0 by White Bird. The victors scored their goals through Mateo Matius in the 44th and 52nd minutes and Mussa Haji in the 89th minute.
Meanwhile, Nyangobo thrashed Kinondoni 3-1 in a Kipwida Cup match. Nyangobo went ahead in the 33rd minute through Ali Haji. Mwinyi Juma added the second in the 40th minute before Haji re-emerged into the picture to blast home the third.
Kinondoni got their consolation goal through Salum Rajab in the 47th minute. The competition, which involves 18 teams including the Zanzibar Sports Writers Association (ZASWA), continues today when Walalahoi face Red.
In another development, the North A District Football Association has scrapped off New Boys from the ongoing Second Division League due to misconduct.
The association’s secretary Mselem Haji Mselem said the team, which assaulted referee Waziri Sheha, has also been relegated to the third division and fined 800,000/- which must be paid by Thursday.
“New Boys roughed up the referee after losing 1-0 to New Africa in a league match,” he said.
“Of the 800,000/-, 200,000/- will compensate the referee’s working tools, 200,000/- will be spent on his medical care and the rest is a fine for the team’s unsporting behaviour.”
