Dar women cricketers stumble to defeat against Zimbabwe

Zimbabwe won the toss against Tanzania and elected to bat first. They posted 80 runs for the loss of 9 wickets, with their top scorer Nkomo Josephine managing 19 runs off 32 balls. In response, Tanzania fell short by 6 runs chasing 81 to win.

They achieved 75/9 in 20 overs with Saida Hamisi the only batter crossing double figures at 28 runs off 40 balls. Zimbabwe’s Mujaji Pellagia took 2 wickets in 3 overs for 12 runs, while Tanzania’s Mwanaiddi Swedi took 3 wickets in 3 overs for 11 runs.

The Tanzania ladies had launched their campaign on a sound note, when they beat Uganda by eight runs in a closely contested encounter at the same ground. Also yesterday, Uganda bounced back from day one defeat, beating Kenya by four runs at the University of Dar Es Salaam ground.

The Kenyans won the toss and opted to bat first. They, thus, scored 56 runs with the loss of 9 wickets in 20 overs. Sharon Juma was the only batter to score double figures (18 runs off 29 balls). Uganda bowlers Favia Laker and Mary Nalule took 2 wickets each.

Uganda chased the target of 57 in 14.5 overs and won the match by 4 wickets. Scovia Akello scored 19 not out off 28 and Franklyne Majjumba scored 16 not out off 23 balls.
