At the tournament opening match that was held at University of Dar es Salaam (UDSM) grounds on Thursday, Jessani and Jani scored 133 and 131 respectively, to inspire Dar es Salaam record an impressive victory.
Dar won the toss and decided to bat first. Everything went as they planned and they scored a total of 449 runs with only three wickets lost in the allotted 50 overs.
That left Mwanza with a high mountain to climb. The hosts dominated the game throughout and looked dangerous in every department and left no room for their opponent in a one sided match. Mwanza clearly knew that it required a miracle for them to catch that score in reply. They only managed 12 runs all out in only 7 overs.
The other match of the day that was played at the Dar es Salaam Gymkhana (DGC) grounds saw Morogoro beating Arusha by 3 runs. In the match, Morogoro took first innings and collected 79 runs all out in 31 overs.
It looked like an easy run for Arusha to overcome the deficit and the team from the northern Tanzania tried it hard especially their opening batsmen, but only managed 77 runs, all out in 33 overs.
The three days tournament involve four teams include hosts Dar, Morogoro, Arusha and Mwanza. The tournament reaches its final today as Mwanza is scheduled to confront Arusha at the UDSM while hosts Dar will face Morogoro challenge at DGC.
According to the Tanzania Cricket Association (TCA) official Kazim Nasser, the event will be used for the selection of Tanzania U-19 boy’s team to go and play in Africa U-19 boys event in Zambia this August.
