The DGC golf competition secretary Vikas Varma said in Dar es Salaam that the one-day 18 holes event, dubbed ‘Medewell Golf Day’ tournament, is open to both men and women.
“I am pleased to announce that we are hosting the Medewell Charity Golf Day’ on Saturday, 3rd May 2014,” he said.
Varma said that the entry sheet has been posted at the club and appealed to golfers to come forward in big numbers. He said that for those wishing to take place, the deadline for the entries will be on Thursday at 7pm.
He said: “This is going to be a great event and I request all golfers to support the section and Medewell by participating and donating generously to this worthy cause.”
Medewell is a local NGO that is supporting medical services to help the poor and needy. Varma said that Medewell Chairman Mustafa Dhanji is one of the prominent golfers and has personally requested support.
According to Dhanji, the organisation aims to raise at least USD 25,000 for Medewell Charitable Health Centre located in Kibaha.
“Our services target vulnerable communities by adopting a holistic framework to bring them out of the cycle of poverty, abuse and exploitation,” he said.
“We also provide clinics for pregnant women, normal birth giving, after delivery clinics for mothers and babies.
We are changing lives of the poorest and the most marginalised communities in Tanzania.”
Dhanji said that they also invite sponsors and companies to join them by choosing package of gold for USD 3000, silver 1000 and bronze 500 that will enable to advertise their products at the club and golf course during the event and make it a success.
