The four-day men’s championship is set for September 4-7 at the par 72 Entebbe course located near the Entebbe Airport. The Dar es Salaam Gymkhana Club (DGC) golf captain Akhil Yusufali told the ‘Daily News’ in Dar es Salaam that they have received an invitation from Uganda to feature in the prestigious tournament.
Organised by Uganda Golf Union (UGU) this year’s event will be the 71st edition of Uganda Amateur Open Championship and top East African amateur golfers, including those from Tanzania, are expected to vie for the top honour.
Yusufali said that the main event will be 72 holes with a handicap limit of 9 and under. He added that the subsidiary event set for September 6 and 7 will be for 36 holes with a handicap limit of 10-16.
The captain said the organizers have set the entrance fee for each participant at around $40. “Uganda Open is one of the biggest tournaments in the region and it’s good to see our neighbours stage their 71st edition this year. This is an historic achievement,” Yusufali said.
He called on those interested in taking part in the championship to get in touch with the club so that they can facilitate their registration before the deadline.
