LATRA comes out with ‘Nauli App’

LATRA comes out with ‘Nauli App’

LAND Transport Regulatory Authority (LATRA) is developing a public transport fare app to enable passengers to access correct fares at their fingertips.

LATRA Director General, MrHabibuSuluo said that the ‘Nauli app’ will feature information on all country’s public transport fares from commuters to upcountry buses.

“The app development is at an advance stage and we need, like, one month to complete the process…by the end of this month it will be ready,” MrSuluo told the ‘Daily News on Tuesday, adding:

“This first-of-its-kind app will allow passengers to receive first-hand fare information.”

The head of land transport regulator said they came up with the idea to protect passengers from being swindled by uncouth touts at most bus stands countrywide.

“Passengers in most cases fail to figure out the correct fare for both daladala and upcountry bases.

“The app will be a game changer in the market as it will end unnecessary arguments between passengers and bus conductors,” Mr Suluo said.

The app, according to LATRA, is locally developed jointly byLATRA and e-government IT experts.

Through the app, passengers will be able to see the distance of the route selected as well as the fare for ordinary and semi-luxury class buses.

Currently, passengers can check online commuter, online taxi and intercity/town bus fares through the LATRA website. The exercise is not user-friendly compared to the app.

The Nauli app will go well with the introduction of an e-ticketing system as passengers will enjoy seamless services online at their convenience.

Already, the number of buses registered in the e-ticketing system surged from 550 Tuesday last week to 1432 last Sunday, which was the deadline issued by LATRA to bus owners to start issuing e-tickets.

The e-ticket, if fully implemented, will not only enable transporters to strengthen their services by increasing investment in the sector but also passengers will benefit from the use of the system by being able to book tickets from anywhere and avoid the dangers of touts.
