Rejuvenated Azam fire warning shot

AZAM have begun firing warning shots to their next Premier League opponents Tanzania Prisons before meeting them at Nelson Mandela Stadium in Sumbawanga this Saturday.

The Chamazi-based outfits overpowered Mbeya Kwanza with a 1-0 win at Sokoine Stadium in Mbeya on Tuesday to pocket vital points which heighten them to the fourth position with 18 points from 12 games.

The Zambian import,Rodgers Kola netted the winner courtesy of his piercing header shortly before the halftime whistle and it remained unanswered until the end of the 90-minute play.

In his reaction, Azam's Information Officer Thabit Zakaria said they have much respect to Tanzania Prisons and are aware that the duel will be a tough encounter for the both teams.

"Our mission to get three points from them (Tanzania Prisons) remains unchanged and we are going there to play and emerge winners even though the game will be extremely difficult," he said.

Commenting on whether they still have plans to bring in a new Head Coach to replace the incumbent interim trainer Abdihamid Moallin, Zakaria replied that the decision will be made by the management of the club.

Under Moallin, Azam seem to have rejuvenated their performance and kept improving a game after game no wonder they succeeded to reach in the finals of the Mapinduzi Cup before losing 1-0 to the champions Simba.

Again, Zakaria lauded the perfect workrate being displayed by their newly signed Ibrahim Ajibu saying it is a blessing to have a player of his status in the squad.

For Tanzania Prisons, the going is tough in the Premier League as their Nelson Mandela arena is no longer a threatening venue for teams parading in the league due to the fact the team lost most of their home games.

They lately unveiled Patrick Odhiambo as their new coach replacing Salum Mayanga who has moved to Mtibwa Sugar as a move to to return to winning ways before it is too late.

They lost 2-0 from KMC in their previous match and will be heads up to escape a second successive defeat at their home territory.
