Sumbawanga approves 41bn/- budget for 2022/23

From Sumbawanga Municipal Council (SMC) in Rukwa Region has approved a 41.7bn/- budget for 2022/23 Financial Year.

The Council estimates to collect domestic revenues and spend 41.7bn/- from various sources, with about 6,861,866_718/-being grants for execution of various development projects.

The acting Council’s Director, Mr Andrew Zumba presented the proposed plans and budget of the municipality for 2022/23 FY at the councillors' full council meeting held here recently which discussed and approved the municipal budget.

The meeting was held under the chairmanship of the Council’s Mayor, Mr Justine Malisawa.

Giving details, Mr Zumba explained that Sumbawanga Municipal Council has proposed to collect domestic revenue and spend 2.44bn/-.

“Sumbawanga Municipal Council estimates to receive grants from Central government subsidiaries of about         27.18bn/- being - civil servant’s salaries and 1.74bn/- for Free Education,” he said.

Mr Zumba said that 739.33m/-, being 40 per cent of the proposed domestic revenue collection budget will be spent for the execution of various development projects while 1.10bn/- which is 60 per cent will be spent as municipal current expenditures.

He emphasized that the Council will also allocate 10 per cent of its domestic revenue collection for providing free interest rate loans to groups of women and youth as well as people living with disabilities.

“On executing the approved budget, our first key priority is to construct 17 classrooms for primary schools, finalizing 10 building structures for primary schools and procurement of twenty e-devices for the collection of domestic revenues (POS)" he noted.
