Orthodox Pope admires Tanzania’s stability

HIS Beatitude Theodoros II of Alexandria, who is the current Pope and Patriarch of Alexandria and All Africa, has expressed admiration of Tanzania, saying the country is stable and an exemplary peace model globally.

The Orthodox Church leader, Theodoros II said he has been mentioning Tanzania in various speeches made globally and places visited, citing Russia that the country is stable in the African continent worth emulation.

“Wherever I have been asked to mention or choose a stable country globally, I automatically remember Egypt followed by Tanzania.

The Holy Father made the statement at the State House in Dar es Salaam, yesterday in a meeting held with the Vice-President Dr Philip Mpango.

He said he was pleased to have talks with the Vice-President and asked him to deliver his greetings to President Samia Suluhu Hassan, terming her as a symbol of love available in Tanzania.

“The stability of Tanzania is because of strength of its people and availability of many opportunities they peacefully tap,” he stated.

Equally, the Prelate used the opportunity to send his condolences following the death of Fifth Phase President, John Magufuli and promised that he would continue praying for Tanzania and its people, when he returns back to Egypt.

He was also pleased to learn that Tanzania has continued to increase the number of believers of Orthodox Church, adding that they have started building a major centre for prayers in Arusha. 

On his part, Vice-President Dr Philip Mpango assured the Orthodox Church Leader that Tanzania has been a hub of peace and will continue to value and respect all religions.

Dr Mpango further said that the country was thrilled by his visit and asked him to continue putting Tanzania in his daily prayers, adding that religious leaders play a great role in peace of any nation.

He assured that the government recognises great contribution from the religious institutions that have been cooperating with the government in bringing socio-economic development, such as in education and health particularly in remote areas.

He mentioned some of remarkable contribution of the Orthodox Church in the country as constructing 90 clinics and hospitals in Kagera region.

Dr Mpango assured him that Tanzania will continue working closely and collaborating with the Church in bringing development for citizens.
