Dube dedicates inspirational goal to players

AFTER scoring a spectacular long range goal against Young Africans on Sunday, Azam’s lethal striker Prince Dube has dedicated his powerful long range trike to the entire team for good job well done.

He is the leading top scorer of the Mainland Premier League with 12 goals, followed by Simba’s Meddie Kagere and John Bocco with 11 and 10 goals, respectively.

Azam slowed down Yanga 1-0 on Sunday at Benjamin Mkapa Stadium in Dar es Salaam to clear the season’s title race in favour of defending champions Simba who enjoy the top spot.

After hits and misses during the hot match, finally one door was opened in the 86th minute when Dube injected the painful venom which flattered the hosts.

“It is a great feeling to score but it was not only me, we did this as a team as such, I dedicate the goal to the entire team. I am more focused to help the team win more games,” he said.

However, despite enabling his side to snatch the important win, Dube gave credit to their opponents for playing good football and giving them a tough puzzle to solve.

He then described the Mainland Premier League as one of the competitive leagues on the continent saying he is lucky to come and play professional football in the country.

“Let me thank Azam fans for supporting me since day one I arrived here such that even if I do not score, they are always behind me. I will continue to do my best for the team,” said him.

He also expressed his happiness for currently topping the scorers’ chart of the campaign saying it is the dream of every striker to win the golden boot award at the end of the season.

On his part, Yanga’s player Haruna Niyonzima said even though they lost the game, they still have an opportunity to win the silverware at the end of the season.

“The most important thing is to never give up because even other teams can lose their matches like the way we have done. We just need to work as a team for all the remaining league games,” he said.

Coming up for Yanga is a heavyweight match against their traditional rivals Simba set on May 8th at the 60,000 capacity stadium in the city which will surely decide the campaign’s championship direction.

The fever towards the big encounter has already began to boil up since usual businesses are momentarily paralysed when the two giants square up.
