‘Try Again’ avoids conflict of interest at Simba

SIMBA SC Acting President, Salim Abdallah has unveiled the reason behind his decision not to vie for any post in the forthcoming club’s general election, scheduled to be held on November 3rd this year.

Many Simba fans had hoped Abdallah, popularly known by the club supporters as ‘Try Again’, would contest for the post of Chairman at the club, but he said it would be wise for him to step aside to avoid conflict of interest.

“I led the club through the successful transformation process and it will be conflicting if I cling into the top position. It will be wise and for the best of the club’s future for other fresh ideas to come and lead us,” he said.

However, his decision has been received with mixed feelings among the club members and supporters, who strongly believed that Abdallah was still needed in the club after his successful short leadership stint.

Abdallah came to power in July last year after the club’s President, Evance Aveva and his Vice Geoffrey Nyange ‘Kaburu’ were detained accused of forgery and money laundering of 300,000 US dollars (About 600m/-).

The club’s Executive Committee was forced to meet and agreed to pick Abdallah, who is among the founders of ‘Friends of Simba’, while Idd Kajuna was picked interim Vice-president.

According to the Chairman of the club’s Election Committee, Boniphace Lihamwike, at least 21 club members have picked nomination forms to vie for various posts in the election in the procedure which ended on Monday.

Already, some of the candidates who picked forms have returned the filled forms. Lihamwike said all those who have picked nomination forms are required to return them before Saturday.

He said the exercise to screen candidates will be conducted on Sunday up to Tuesday and campaigns will commence on October 2nd this year.

Candidates who have picked forms for the club’s top post are Mtemi Ramadhan, who worked in various managerial posts in the Tanzania Football Federation (TFF) under President Leodegar Tenga.
