AN ambulance meant to carry patients has been seized after security officers allegedly found it packed with khat commonly known as “Mirungi” in Mara Region.
Tarime Town Council Director Elias Ntiruhungwa alleged that the driver of the ambulance was fired from the moment he was caught with khat.
“He left with the vehicle without any permission on Tuesday evening. He acted just like any other thief and as we are speaking he is no longer our worker.
His position has been terminated,” Mr Ntiruhungwa told the ‘Daily News’ in a telephone interview on Wednesday afternoon.
Images of the ambulance went viral on social media on Wednesday afternoon showing two suspects and the vehicle packed with several sacks of khat.
The ambulance belongs to Tarime District Hospital in Tarime Town Council. The police in Mara Region confirmed the incident yesterday.
