NASORO Sharifu Volleyball Academy (NSVA) plans to register 15 players who will form the academy’s senior team for both local and international tournaments next year.
This comes just a week since the NSVA was officially opened at the National Indoor Stadium in Dar es Salaam. NSVA founder Nasoro Sharifu told the ‘Daily News on Saturday’ in Dar es Salaam yesterday that apart from running a junior development programme, the academy is planning to build a strong senior team.
He said that previously enrolled youth aged between 8 and 14, has now grown up to include men’s senior players as plan to register women’s team was underway. “I would like to invite senior players aged between 18 and 24 who wish to join us to register promptly as the doors are wide open ,” he said.
Sharifu added that the registration is scheduled to start today at the National Indoor Stadium. “It is open to male players they must come with original and copies of birth certificates as we want to insure we get the right persons,” he said.
He said that the senior team will be formed by 15 quality players who meet the standard in terms of skills, discipline and height. Sharif who also serves as the national beach volleyball coach and former Dar es Salaam Regional Volleyball Association (DAREVA) technical committee chairman, said that this is an opportunity for Dar-based youths who aim to go further at the game.
He said selected players will sign contracts with academy before being eligible to play for the academy, and if any other team need one of them, an agreement of the both parts will signed.
Sharifu said his academy has far registered 67 youth who are scheduled to undergo medical examination next week. Junior criteria for those wishing to join the academy are boys and girls aged between 8-10 (height 150 centimeters), youth aged between 10 and 12 years with 155 cm height while those aged between 12 and 14 should be 160 centimeters.
