HUNDREDS of Kagera Sugar fans led by Karagwe District Commissioner (DC), Godfrey Mheluka, witnessed a well-balanced game after home boys Kagera Sugar drew with Azam 1-1 in a tightly contested Premier League match held here at Kaitaba Stadium.

Until half time the score was 0-0. Defender Juma Semvuni scored the important goal for Kagera Sugar in the 49th minute when he connected home a 25-metre free kick taken by Jaffary Kibaya.

Azam equalised in the 53rd minute through second half substitute Iddi Kipagwile. He caught custodian Ramadhan Mohamed on wrong foot sending the ball in the far right corner of the net. Kagera Sugar defenders were also left stunned.

Kagera Sugar started the game on hot pace sending two near misses through Selemani Mangoma and Jaffary Kibaya. Azam featured prominently in second half bringing in Paul Peter for Steven Kingue. Kagera also brought in Peter Malyanzi and Atupele Green in favour of Venance Ludovick and Seleman Mangoma.

Kagera Sugar Head Coach, Mecky Maxime praised his boys for the spirited fight. “My boys played well but lack was not on our side. We are still confident of doing well as the league progresses,” he said.
