ALL 16 teams eligible for the 2017/18 Premier League (VPL) season were yesterday presented with new kits worth over 500m/- by the league’s main sponsors Vodacom Tanzania in a colourful handover ceremony held in Dar es Salaam.

Speaking at the occasion, Vodacom Tanzania Director of Marketing and Distribution, Hisham Hendi said their company is pleased to be the major sponsors of VPL and prom ised to continue supporting the league for many years to come.

“We know that football apart from being a social activity, helps a lot in terms of revenue collection and offers employment opportunities to many people. By sponsoring VPL, we do not only uplift the standards of football but other sports as well.

Our hope as financiers of the top flight league in the country is to see that people who are our customers are always happy,” Hendi said.

In his remarks, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Tan zania Premier League Board (TPLB) Boniface Wambura lauded the mobile company for being on the forefront in sponsoring the league for a long time.

“This event means the new season of VPL has officially kicked off ahead of the Community Shield game between VPL champions Dar es Salaam Young Africans and Azam Sports Confederation Cup winners Simba SC on August 23 this year at the National Stadium in Dar es Salaam,” Wambura said.

The TPLB boss further said they had already talked with the Referees Committee as one way of making sure that some challenges which emerged last season due to poor refereeing do not resurface again this season.

“We want to be serious this time around because VPL is where players who form Taifa Stars come from such that when we spoil it, then we cannot have competent National Football Team,” Wambura insisted.

The revealed football kits will be used in both home and away clashes of the respective VPL clubs for the whole season. A total of 240 matches will be played during the course of the league in various playing grounds across the country.

The VPL 2017-18 teams in alphabetical order are Azam FC, Kagera Sugar, Lipuli FC, Majimaji FC, Mbao FC, Mbeya City FC, Mtibwa Sugar, Mwadui FC, Ndanda FC, Njombe Mji FC, Ruvu Shooting, Simba SC, Singida United, Stand United, Tanzania Prisons and Yanga FC.
