Makongo, Prisons sparkle in volleyball


MAKONGO School and Tanzania Prisons continue to stamp their authority in the Dar es Salaam Volleyball League, with hefty victories in the matches staged over the weekend in the city.

Following the wins, the two teams now dominate the two top positions at the league table. On fire Makongo maintained their top position after beating Police Marine and Mjimwema each by three straight sets in the one-sided matches.

They recorded impressive 25-8, 25-19 and 25-11 victory over Police Marine and went ahead to humiliate Mjimwema 25-13, 25-17 and 25-16. They now enjoy the driver’s seat with 40 points from 15 played games. Tanzania Prisons also increased pressure to leaders after defeating Chui 3-0 (25-23, 2725, 25-18) and iP Sports 3-1 (2518, 25-17, 19-25, 25-21) to also collect total 40 points to settle for the second place.

Other weekend matches saw City Dreams Ports (CDS) Park beat 3-1 Victory Sports (25-13, 22-25, 25-14, 25-23), JKT recorded a 3-1 victory over Mjimwema (25-19, 25-19, 26-28, 25-20), CDS claimed a 3-2 win over Chui (24-26, 08-25, 25-22, 25-19,15-12), while JKT beat Kinyerezi by 3-0 sets in 25-19, 25-15 and 25-12 scores.

Chui who endured difficult week again, still occupy the third place with 27 points. One of top four favourite are iP Sports who have been dropped to the six position with 25 points as CDS Park have jumped to the fourth place with 27 points, like the third placed Chui.

But iP have game in hand and the win should bring them back to the top four. JKT have also jumped to the fifth position from sixth with 25 points, Mjimwema have 17 points at seventh place.
