SIX suspected bandits, a Burundi national among them, have been killed in different incidents which occurred in Dar es Salaam.

In the first incident, police shot dead three suspected gunmen during a failed attempt to escape arrest -- in a spate the Burundi national is alleged to have taken part. The Dar es Salaam Special Zone Police Commander, Mr Lazaro Mambosasa identified the suspects as Gallus Marandu (31) and Fredrick Acholo as residents of Dar es Salaam, and Fanuel Luchanda Kamana alias Mrundi, the Burundi national.

The suspects were allegedly found in possession of an AK-47 gun, two magazines and 57 rounds of ammunition. They were also found with two motorcycles with registration number MC 757 BCT and MC 946 BSE that had been robbed under different incidents.

In another incident, a mob killed two unidentified suspected bandits allegedly caught during a foiled attempt to break into the house of the one Erick Mkwemwa at Mbezi Msuni area in the city at the end of last month.

According to Mambosasa, five suspects arrived at the house and identified themselves as police officers ostensibly on orders to search the house -- before they placed the family members under arrest.

But suspicious neighbours doubted the authenticity of the Toyota Ipsum, T 142 CNF, which the suspects had parked outside the house and soon decided to surround the house, beat two of them to death but the other three managed to escape.

In another incident, a mob stoned to death an unidentified suspected bandit who was using a fake home-made pistol to rob motorcycles at Buza Sigara area in Temeke Municipality. The suspect hired a motorcyclist to take him to the Military forest area at Buza where, upon arrival, the ‘passenger’ turned on his ‘taxi-driver’ in vain attempts to rob the motorcycle. But a mob soon appeared and beat him up.
