THREE peasants from China village among them a father and his son have been arraigned before Nkasi District Court, charged with murder.
Before the trial magistrate, Ms Lilian Rutehengwa, were 64-year old Arcado Rupia, his 35-year son Justine Rupia and Joseph Masanja (38) who stood accused of murdering Celestina Silanda (45) by chopping off her head and amputating her legs and arms.
The trio were allegedly arrested between October 30 and November 1, 2017 at China and Kanazi villages in the district. The trio was however not allowed to enter any plea as the lower court has no mandate to hear the case that will be tried by the High Court.
The magistrate adjourned the case to November 22, this year when it will come for another mention and ordered the accused to remain in custody.
Prosecuting, Inspector of Police Hamim Gwelo claimed that the accused committed the offence on October 30, this year, at around 8:00 pm at China village in Nkasi District.
It was alleged that on that material night, the trio armed with crude weapons, including machetes, invaded the house of the deceased while asleep and killed her.
