THE 9th edition of the annual Kilimanjaro Marathon is scheduled to take place in Moshi on 27th and was launched with pomp in Dar es Salaam on Friday.

The Tanzania Breweries Limited (TBL) marketing Director, David Minja said “We have now entered the 9th year of Kilimanjaro Marathon sponsorship.

“Kilimanjaro Premium Lager is proud to be supporting the event, which has attracted the passion and involvement of various corporate sponsors, the government, local communities and elite runners from around the world,” he said.

Minja said his company was committed to develop athletics in Tanzania through the Kilimanjaro Marathon, which offers a platform for young talents to be in the spot light and test themselves against top athletes.

“This challenges them to improve their standards and subsequently attain good qualifying times for more lucrative international races,” he said.

Launching the event on Friday, Acting Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Information, Culture and Sports, Professor Hermus Mwansoko said he supports efforts by organizers and sponsors in developing athletics and promoting Tanzania.

Mwansoko said; “Since the Kimanjaro Marathon was launched in 2003; it has been a major instrument for nurturing athletics talents as it continues to be bigger and better every year.''

He described Kilimanjaro Marathon was a perfect promotion for the country because he said; this race is one of the best destination marathon in the world.

He added that the government was pleased with continued sponsors’ commitment and to see Kilimanjaro Marathon giving Tanzanian athletes a platform to compete against the top competitors from across the world.

The event is locally co-ordinated by Executive Solutions, whose Executive Director Aggrey Marrealle said preparations are in top gear.

He said Kilimanjaro Marathon has emerged as one of the most successful athletics event in the country, saying things will further improve next year.

Apart from the main sponsors Kilimanjaro Premium Lager, other sponsors are Vodacom Tanzania, Tanzania Tourist Board (TTB), Tanga Cement, DT Dobie, TanzaniteOne, KK Security, Keys Hotel, Kilimanjaro Water, TPC Sugar and Precision Air.
