Chipukizi go top in Zanzibar league

CHIPUKIZI extended their perfect start to the Zanzibar Premier League with a 2-1 win over Duma in a thrilling encounter played at the Gombani Stadium in Pemba on Sunday.

Chipukizi’s Faki Mwalimu scored a brace to make it three wins out of three for his team. Duma’s consolation goal was planted home by Salum Omar. The result means that Chipukizi moved on top of the league standings with nine points, while Bandari who had temporarily occupied the driver’s seat dropped into second place.

In another exciting game on Sunday, former Isles giants Malindi and Mafunzo shared the spoils after they played out a 2-2 draw at the Amaan Stadium.Amour Suleiman put Malindi in front in the half hour mark but Ali Juma pulled the game back in level terms in the 72nd minute.

It looked as if Malindi were going to secure all three points when Renatus Morris restored their lead in the 88th minute, but a Jaku Joma’s strike that came barely a minute later ensured the two teams would settle for a share of spoils. With three rounds already played in this season’s Zanzibar top flight, defending champions Super Falcon have so far enjoyed a torrid start to the campaign after losing all their opening matches.

After crashing to Chipukizi 2-1 in the season’s opener, they went on to lose 2-0 to Duma before they stumbled again at the hands of Jamhuri over the weekend.
