FORMER Chief of Defence Forces (CDF) General (rtd), Davies Mwamunyange will be the chief guest at the opening day of special golf competition in Dar es Salaam today.
The tournament is organised to celebrate 10th anniversary of the Tanzania People’s Defence Forces (TPDF) Lugalo golf club course. Lugalo Club Chairman Michael Luwongo confirmed in Dar es Salaam yesterday that preparation for the same is finalised. Luwongo said that they are happy that Mwamunyange has agreed to grace the event billed to be memorable.
“I want to confirm that Mwamunyange (Davies) will be chief guest at the tournament opening day. It is a great honour to have him, as we all know his enormous support to the club,” he said.
Luwongo said that the tournament tees off this morning with about 24 professional golfers and 30 caddies battling it out in the 18 holes. He said that the main event that will be played over 36 holes involve over 150 golfers from different clubs both local and from neighbouring countries.
The event is set to wind up on Sunday, where former president Jakaya Kikwete will be chief guest, according to Luwongo.
Lugalo club was established in 2006 under former General (rtd) George Waitara. Former president Kikwete was chief guest in the club opening ceremony on December 16, 2006 and this will be the second time for him to attend at club’s historic events.
