Youth tournament kicks off in Dar

THE U-17 Chipukizi Cup sponsored by Airtel Tanzania kicked off yesterday with a call made to the youth to use the tournament to showcase their talents and hence advance their football career to next level.

“Today football is source of employment to millions of footballers in the world. In addition, football has also made some countries boost their economic activities through the game,” said the Mburahati Ward Councilor Yusuph Omary Yenga who was the guest of honour during the opening of the tournament.

“A good example is Ivory Coast. You understand that there a lot of players who play in big leagues across Europe. Those players normally send money back home to their families. By doing so, the country foreign currency increases leading to improvement of economy,” he added.

He said the tournament was a good platform for the as piring youngsters to showcase their talents and they should grasp the opportunity. “At your age you can shape your soccer skills to any level.

The best thing that you should always be keen is listening to your coaches and be disciplined,” he told the youngsters. The tournament which has drawn together 64 teams aims to give the youth an opportunity to showcase their talents and expose them to coaches who will select a combined youth team for the district.

Speaking during the same event, Airtel Tanzania Sales Manager for Dar es Salaam region Brighton Majwala said: ‘Today is a special day not only to us Airtel but also to the youth who are taking part in this tournament.

As you are aware, Airtel Tanzania has been sponsoring the Airtel Rising Stars for seven years and thus we have decided to sponsor youth teams within district level so that we can reach as many young footballers as possible.”
