TANZANIA Golf Union (TGU) has planned to use the Moshi Open Golf Championship as the first test for the national team golfers to represent the country in the African Zone Five Golf Challenge Trophy.
Earlier TGU had planned to start qualifying events last the weekend by staging competitions into two centers; Arusha Gymkhana Club (AGC) that could consist players from Kilimanjaro and Dar es Salaam Gymkhana Club (DGC) that could feature golfers from Morogoro and Dar es Salaam.
But, the national team coach, Hassan Kadio told the ‘Daily News’ in the city yesterday that the qualifying test for the golfers will be during Moshi Open 2017, which is a national-level competition set to tee off on Saturday and wind up on Sunday at the Moshi Gymkhana Club.
According to Kadio, the union has decided to use the event as first qualifying stage and all golfers in the provisional team must participate in Moshi Open this weekend.
Recently TGU picked 29 golfers in the provisional squad which later will be trimmed to ten golfers who will later represent the country in the annual competition set for a tee off from August 22 to 26 this year at the par71 Dar es Sala
