INCUMBENT Jamal Malinzi is among four candidates who have been axed from the Tanzania Football Federation (TFF) president post race, ahead of the election scheduled for Dodoma in August 12th, this year.
The decision was reached by the federation’s Election Committee that met in Dar es Salaam for the first time yesterday, since TFF Executive Committee dropped four members and appointed new ones.
According to a statement by the committee Vice-Chairman, Mohamed Mchengerwa, six candidates have been cleared to race for the federation’s top post. They include Interim President, Wallace Karia and former General Secretary, Fredrick Mwakalebela
Others are Treasurer of the Tanzania Sports Writers Association Shija Richard, former Young Africans President Iman Madega, former Taifa Stars and Yanga midfielder, Ally Mayai and Emmanuel Kimbe.
Mchengerwa said Malinzi was axed for failure to attend the interview for candidates vying for various posts in the federation. He said the failure is against federation’s election regulation of 2013 as provided for in Section 11(7).
Other candidate who was not endorsed is Fredrick Masolwa, for lack of experience in accordance with Section 9 (3) of the federation’s election regulation of 2013. Another candidate who was not cleared was John Kijumbe for lack of experience as well, while former Vice-President Athumani Nyamani pulled out of the race.
For the Vice-President post, only Geoffrey Nyange, who has not been cleared and in fact, he had already declared to pull out of the race. Nyange is Simba’s Vice- Chairman. Those who have been approved are Mulamu Ng’hambi, Michael Wambura, Mtemi Ramadhani Robert Selasela and Stephen Mwakibolwa.
Mchengewra said all candidates who have not been cleared are free to appeal to relevant authorities, while those cleared are subject to verification of their secondary education certificates by National Examination Council of Tanzania (NECTA).
Malinzi and Nyange have been detained in custody allegedly for being involved in money laundering and fraud. The election process resumed after it came to an abrupt stop last Sunday after the election committee suspended it until further notice. The move was announced by the Committee’s Chairman, Revocatus Kuuli amid chaos during an exercise to vet candidates.
This forced the TFF Executive Committee to make several changes in its standing committees, including the embattled Election Committee, dropping four members and appointing new ones.
Those four members who were dropped include Vice-Chairperson, Domina Madeli, members - Juma Lallika, Jeremiah Wambura and Hamim Mahmoud Omar, allegedly for, among other reasons, breach of ethical conducts.
However, Chairman of the committee, Revocatus Kuuli has been retained and he will now work with new members who are Rufiji Member of Parliament (MP) Mohamed Mchengerwa, Advocate Malangwe Ally Mchungahela, Advocate Kiomoni Kibamba, who is also Mwanza City Director and Advocate Thadeus Kalua.
