TANZANIA amateur golf champion Victor Joseph begins title defence-campaign tomorrow in Moshi Open, the first national-level competition this season.
Joseph won the championship on order of merits following his good show in various tournaments sanctioned by Tanzania Golf Union (TGU). The opening round of TGUbacked tournament, Moshi Open golf tournament is set to tee off at Moshi Club this weekend.
Victor Joseph closest challengers include Abbas Adam, Ally Mcharo and Isack Wanyeche, all are in Moshi trying to win their first points. Golfers from major golf clubs are also heading for the season opener.
Morogoro’s Fadhil Hussein, is one of the golfers seeking to win the opener’s top prizes. Others from Morogoro include a teenager Ricardo Fisher while the senior players in the list are Tony Nikitas, Iddi Burehi (who is also a juniors captain) and veteran player, Sherida Chilipachi.
“All players are well prepared and are in good health and looking forward for the tournament,” said Hussein. According to Hussein, Morogoro left yesterday for Moshi ahead of the Saturday tee off.
Moshi Open will be first national level tournament in the 2017 TGU calendar. It is the event that players fight for order of merit points which give them chances to play for the national team.
Moshi Open is likely to draw top golfers from all clubs in the country who will battle for the top honours in different categories. Overall defending champion is Nicolas Chatanda from Tanzania People’s Defence Forces (TPDF) Lugalo Golf Club of Dar es Salaam
