Pinda promises ‘dirty money’ rumours probe

THE government is investigating allegations of money laundering, drug trafficking levelled against some political leaders in the country.

Ali Kessy Mohamed (Nkasi North - CCM) caused  a stir in the House when he demanded government plans in controlling use of illegal money in politics. Mr Mohamed said that there were allegations that illegally obtained money from drugs, car and armed robberies is funding some political parties.

In his response, Prime Minister Mizengo Pinda said he could not comment on it because the reports were coming from the Internet which is an unreliable source of information.  However, he said that investigations will be conducted through state apparatus and once they are discovered stern measures will be taken.
