Plans to improve fish market

DEEP sea fishing and the construction of a fish market complex in Zanzibar will propel the fishing sector forward on the Isles, the House of Representatives was informed on Friday.
The Minister for Livestock and Fisheries, Mr Abdullahi Jihadi Hassan, said the USD 22.3 million fishing industry development programme targets also to promote deep sea fishing; develop small fishing groups with skills and modern fishing boats, and monitoring and evaluation by 2015.
"We have support from Iran and Oman which have promised to donate 100 fishing boats," the minister said adding that his ministry has allocated 300m/- for other related projects which include patrolling conservation areas.
Legislators: Mr Jaku Hashim Ayoub (CCM-Muyuni) and Mr Subeit Khamis Faki (CUF-Micheweni) were among the members of the House who enquired about efforts by the government to develop the fishing industry.
