Kagera university needs 3bn/- to start

THE first university college in Kagera region, Josiah Kibira University College of Tumaini Makumira University, needs at least 3bn/- to become fully operational, sources have said.

The Secretary of Evangelical Lutheran Church of Tanzania, Northern West Diocese, Mr Godwin Rwezaura told journalists that buildings for the university have already been completed. He stated that the amount needed was for strengthening infrastructures to enable the university to acquire full registration.

He appealed to stakeholders in Kagera region and across the country to contribute to raise such amount as the university would teach students from all over the country basing on their qualifications. Mr Rwezaura noted that the amount required was for three phases whereby this year at least 1bn/- is needed.

Another 1bn/- will be needed next year and another 1bn/- will be needed in 2014 for completion of the required infrastructures. Speaking on the establishment of the university, Bishop Elisa Buberwa said that the university had come at the right time, urging youths to take advantage of the opportunity to keep abreast with advancement of science and technology.

Bishop Buberwa stated that the university would also enable many people in Kagera and other regions to have easy access to university education. He hailed Kagera Regional Commissioner Mr Fabian Masawe for his efforts in mobilizing people to contribute in making sure the university commence in October this year.
