THE body of former Chief Editor of Jambo Leo Willy Edward Ogunde who died in Morogoro on Saturday night will be laid to rest in Serengeti, Mara Region.
The deceased’s brother, Mr Aessy Ogunde told the ‘Daily News’ on Sunday that burial arrangements were being made in Dar es Salaam.
“We are on our way to Muhimbili National Hospital (MNH) where we will preserve the body as burial arrangements continue and we are planning to travel to Serengeti for burial,” he said. According to a statement released by the Tanzania Editors Forum (TEF), Willy died at around 12.30am.
It noted that the late Ogunde was in Morogoro attending a workshop for editors on census held by the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) in Morogoro town. A statement issued and signed by TEF Secretary, Mr Neville Meena further said that the deceased had gone to visit his children who are schooling in Morogoro where he remained till late night and called for a motorbike to take him back to his hotel.
“When the bike rider arrived, the late Ogunde came out and as he was walking towards the bike he abruptly fell down. Relatives rushed him to hospital where he was pronounced dead by a doctor,” reads the statement. The TEF also sent its message of condolence to the deceased’s family, editors and all journalists following the untimely death of Ogunde.
“We thank God for having given us a time to work with Ogunde in our professional life. We will forever cherish his politeness and kindness. It is a sorrow to all of us,” reads another part. The Managing Director Jambo Concept (T) Limited, Mr Juma Pinto, noted that they will collaborate with the deceased’s family in every step during this difficult moment.
“We are at MNH waiting for the body to arrive after which we will converge at the deceased’s home for burial arrangement with family members,” he said. The late Ogunde, who held various editorial posts in Majira newspaper before moving to Jambo Leo newspaper, was born in 1974.
