RESIDENTS in Kagera Region have been asked to take precautions following flood alerts issued by the Tanzania Meteorological Agency.

The Regional Commissioner, Col. Fabian Massawe, urged councillors and village leaders to sensitise the people about the dangers which could be created by the floods.

The Tanzania Meteorological Association (TMA) issued an alert, saying places like Kagera, Mwanza, Kigoma, Kilimanjaro, Morogoro, Pemba, Unguja and Tanga were poised to receive more than normal rainfalls.

According to TMS, heavy rains were expected to fall for four consecutive days, urging residents in the mentioned areas to take necessary precautions.

TMA said the heavy rains would be caused by enhancement of low pressure over the Indian Ocean, prone areas being Dar es Salaam , Tanga, Coast, Morogoro, Lindi, Mtwara, Unguja and Pemba. The TMA called upon Disaster Management Authorities (DMA) to take necessary precautions adding that risk areas included those close to the sea, valleys and roads.
