PRESIDENT Jakaya Kikwete will on Wednesday be honoured with Africa’s Most Impactful Leader of the Year award.

The Minister for Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Mr Benard Membe, is expected to receive the award on behalf of the president on Wednesday in the US capital, Washington.

A statement issued in Dar es Salaam said the award, which is issued annually, will be given to President Kikwete by African Leadership Magazine.

The award is issued annually to African presidents who meet the standards set by the organization, including adherence to good governance, human rights and democracy.

According to the organization, President Kikwete merited the honour for good governance of ordinary citizens.

Furthermore, the statement said President Kikwete won the award after the organization was satisfied with Tanzania's performance on the international level. Other previous African presidents who have won the award include Liberia's Ellen Johnson Sirleaf and Ghana's John Kuffor.
