    THE Tanzania People’s Defence Forces (TPDF) soldier who killed two of his colleagues has been arrested today.

    Private Yusuf Hussein 30, was arrested at Ilagala, 30 kilometres from Kigoma municipality.

    According to Kigoma Assistant Regional Police Commander Twaha Ramadhan, Hussein was arrested 70km from the place he committed the murder. He was arrested during an operation which was being carried out by TPDF and police in Kigoma.

    The suspect is being questioned concerning the murder and will soon be taken to a court.

    Private Hussein shot dead Private Hildiphonce Masanja from Shinyanga and Private Rashid Nawawi from Zanzibar. The deceased were shot dead when they were on sentry duty on the Tanzania and Burundi border.

    Before he shot them, he entered into an armoury, took a machine gun with 30 rounds of ammunition and after shooting Masanja, he went back to the armoury to collect an additional 120 bullets, burnt his room and that of his colleagues, before shooting Nawawi for unknown reasons.

    He abandoned the weapon at the place of the incident but 92 bullets were not accounted for.
