TWO foreign businessmen operating a casino in Dar es Salaam were today arraigned before Kinondoni district court charged with causing grievous bodily injuries to one of their local workers.

The two accused, Stelios Tsihlas, 42 from Greece and Dino Katsapas, 39, from Cyprus jointly tortured the local worker, David Peter Mutende, at Odyssey offices in Masaki area.

Public Prosecutor Bathseba Kasanga told the court that the accused jointly carried out the assault on November 14 by using feet, pieces of wood and iron bars, causing him to suffer grievous harm.

The accused were bailed out but were required to surrender their passports.

Mutende is a Pit Boss at the Le Grande Casino at JMall in Dar es Salaam. The accused who left the Kinondoni court grounds in a Toyota Carina T684 AWV will appear again in court on January 20, 2010.

Comment   This sure is an inspirational move considering the much held perception that foreignors, especially those of light skin seem to have more rights than the locals! May justice prevail because no one is / should be above the law
