MEMBERS of Parliament for Mara Region today called for quick implementation of all road pledges given by President Jakaya Kikwete in the area, to be implemented before 2010 general elections.
The MPs expressed concern over the delay by the Tanzania National Roads Agency(Tanroads), in implementing the pledges.
Ms Rosemary Kirigini (special seat - CCM) in the region, cited the upgrading of Bunda-Kisorya into tarmac level, as one of the project whose execution is going at snail pace.
“The President has always been insisting that by 2010 Bunda- Kisorya Road would have tarmac, but the road is in a pathetic situation until now,” Ms Kirigini said at the Regional Tanroads meeting which met here today.
Musoma Urban MP, Mr Vedastus Mathayo (CCM), said many roads repair and upgrading promised by President Kikwete, that could have been ready before next general elections, were yet to be implemented in Musoma municipal.
He wanted Tanroads to allocate enough funds if they are to meet the deadline in executing the road projects. He cited Makutano- Loliondo road and several other pieces of road in the municipality that are yet to be completed.
“The President promised us but the executives are allocating insufficient money and as a results, they leave the work incomplete”, lamented Mr Mathayo.
The law makers wanted Ministry of Infrastructure Development to set aside enough funds, that would help to execute all roads line up for upgrading into tarmac level in the region, in the next financial year.
Mara Regional Commissioner (RC), Mr Enos Mfuru, expressed optimism that all road promises made by the president would be completed by 2010.
Mara Regional Tanroad Manager, Mr Emmanuel Korosso, said plans to upgrade Kisorya – Bunda road were in full swing. He said already 200m/- was set aside for the feasibility study of the roads, whose length was not immediately disclosed.
The meeting was also attended by Bunda MP, Mr Steven Wasira, who is also Minister for Agriculture, Food Security and Co-operatives and Serengeti MP, Dr James Wanyancha, who is also the Deputy Minister for Livestock Development and Fisheries.
The government estimates to spend over 6bn/- to improve road network in the region during this financial year, according to Mr Korosso. (>>>>>Ends/WISE)
