THE High Court in Shinyanga Region yesterday sentenced to death by hanging four people, who were charged with killing a 10-year-old albino, Lyaku Willy, at Kidamlida River at Nkwindwabuye Village in Bariadd District last year.

This brings to seven the number of people so far sentenced to death after they were convicted of murder of albinos.

Judge Gadi Mjemas convicted the accused-Mboje Mawe, Chenyenye Kishiwa, alias Chenyenye Maganyale, Sayi Gamanya, alias Mwanapili and Sayi Mafizi-after being satisfied by evidence produced by prosecution witnesses.

During the trial, the judge said, the prosecution led by Senior State Attorney Edwin Kakolaki and state attorneys Veritus Mlay and Lenatus Mkude, called 14 witnesses and produced 11 documentary evidence to prove the charge against the four men, including a village chairman.

On the other hand, the accused through their advocates Serapion Kahangwa Method Kabuguzi, Feran Kweka and John Nqwi`igulila produced seven defence witnesses, including the four accused and three documentary exhibits to show that they did not commit the offence.

Howeve, the Judge told the fully packed court that after analyzing the evidence produced in court he concluded that the prosecution proved beyond reasonable doubt that the four men committed the offnce.

He ruled that there was ample evidence proving the involvement of accused in brutally killing the deceased by slaughtering his head using a dagger and later amputated his legs using a machete.

The Judge said that after executing the murder, the accused put the deceased body in a sulphate bag and dumped it into a well near the river and left with the head and legs in a plastic bag and went to bury them at a house owned by one of them.

Prosecutor`s evidence showed that the deceased, Lyaku Willy, was living with Gamanya who was Harmlet Chairman and his brother-in-law, while Chenyenye was Village Chairman. The deceased had unhealing wound on his left leg and was a mentally retarded
