THE Speaker of the East African Legislative Assembly, Mr Abdirahin Abdi, has said that the East African Community Anthem would be in force by November this year.
He said that the samples of the proposed anthems would be sent to respective head of states so that they could listen to the songs.
"This is part of the process to restore the East African community which began in 2000 after the ratification of the East African Community Treaty.
The EAC now comprises Uganda, Kenya,Tanzania, Rwanda and Burundi.He said the anthem would be a symbol of unity among the East Africans and that it should also be a pro-people anthem.
Speaking on the ongoing second assembly which is being held in Dar es Salaam, the Speaker said that the assembly will debate issues of pivotal importance to the EAC.
He mentioned some of the issues as debate and passage of the EAC Civil Aviation Safety and Security Oversight Agency (CASSOA) and the EAC Customs Management Bills, adoption of the report on extractive industries and adoption report of a study tour of EAC customs border points.
Others are the adoption of the report on gender mainstreaming in EAC, adoption of the report on economic partnership agreements between EAC and the European Union.
He said that the assembly has taken the centre stage in the integration process by providing the required legislative framework and oversight to ensure the integration remains on track.
Mr Abdi said on the centre stage of the legislative assembly, the process had involved the participation of the people of East Africa.
Since its inception, the second assembly has passed a total of 15 legislations which had been assented to or are in process of being assented to.
He mentioned them as the Lake Victoria transport management bill, the East African Joint Trade Negotiations Bill, the summit (delegation of Powers and Functions) bill, the East African Customs Management bill and the East African Community Appropriation Bills among others.
He said that the laws enacted by the EAC had the full force of law and took the precedence over similar laws in the partner states on matters related to the community.

Good.
Now that we are on 30th October, we eagerly wait for this anthem.
We are clearing our throats to give it the best as only one day remaining to November.
I love East Africans and more so when under one president.
