MORE than 2.2bn/- has been set aside by the District Irrigation Development Fund (DIDF) for implementation of irrigation farming in 2011 - 2012.

This was said on Friday by the Rukwa Regional Commissioner (RC), Ms Stella Manyanya during an exclusive interview with the 'Daily News on Saturday'.

She further said that over a billion shillings was allocated to Sumbawanga District Council, Nkasi (250 m-) and Mpanda (900m/-).

According to the RC, the region has 16 modern irrigation projects while 22 other projects involve traditional irrigation.

“However, the region has completed construction of Urwira major irrigation project at Mpanda District Council, while other irrigation projects are at different stages of rehabilitation including survey and design.
