THE government will on Friday announce establishment of new regions and district councils through the Government Notice (GN).
The Prime Minister, Mizengo Pinda, said in Mpanda, Rukwa Region, on Thursday that the announcement has already been signed by Presidet Jakaya Kikwete.
The Notice, he said, would pave the way for citizens to give their views on the new regions and district councils within 30 days.
He was speaking to residents of Rukwa shortly after he landed in the region for a four-day working tour.
"President Kikwete signed the Notice last Monday and it will officially appear in the GN today, that is to show his commitment in the matter," he said.
The PM said the announcement would outline where the district and regional headquarters would be based and set people at liberty to decide whether the proposed areas were ideal.
He urged people to make sure their views were submitted to the Prime Minister's Office (Regional Administration and Local Governments) within thirty days of the announcement.
This follows the completion of marking the boundaries of the former regions and districts and drawing those of the newly established ones.
The decision, which aims at easing administration of the vast country, will increase the number of regions to 29 from the current 26.
One of the new regions will be known as Njoluma, comprising Njombe, Ludewa and Makete districts, which are currently part of Iringa Region.
The second new region would be known as Simiu, which will be carved out of Shinyanga Region and the third one will be Geita Region.
He listed some of the proposed new districts as Butiama in Mara Region, Mbogwe in Rukwa Region and Nyang'wale and Ushetu in Mwanza Region.
Others are Kwela and Bulele in Rukwa Region, Kaliua and Ikungi in Singida Region, Kalambo, Ushelu and Gairo in Morogoro Region, Mkalama and Nyasa in Ruvuma Region and Uvinza in Kigoma Region.
According to the Premier, the government also intends to establish new district councils, namely Kaliua, Uvinza, Kakong'o, Kalambo, Mkalama, Nyasa, Nyang'wale, Kahama, Masasi and Lindi.
Announcing the decision in the House last year, Mr Pinda said talks on the establishment of Mpanda Region and the upgrading of Arusha Municipality to city status were in progress.
Reports indicate that the cost of establishing a region stands at between 4bn/- and 6bn/-, while the cost of establishing a new district is about 1bn/-.
The costs arise from the construction of headquarters, financing the running of the new administration centre, creation of essential infrastructures and hiring of new civil servants.
During the tour, the prime minister will also inaugurate two campuses of the Open
University of Tanzania (OUT) and launch of CRDB Bank branches in Sumbawanga Municipality and Mpanda district.
He is expected back in Dar es Salaam on Sunday.
