RORYA District Council has allocated 500m/- for construction of staff houses at Ingiri Juu village where the district headquarters has been located, according to its District Executive Director (DED) Mr Cosmas Ngangaji.
"Already we have 200m/- that was set aside in 2010/2011 for construction of the staff houses and construction will kick off this month," Mr Ngangaji told the 'Daily News" on Tuesday.
He said that 100m/- will be dished out by the central government to support construction of more houses during this financial year(2011/2012) in a form of subsidy.
The district council has also earmarked 200m/- from the package of money it is expected to receive through the Capital Development Grant (CDG) in 2011/2012 if it qualifies to get a clean financial report.
The houses will be built by the National Service economic wing (SUMA JKT), Mr Ngangaji said.
Rorya was elevated into a full administrative District in 2007, in a move aimed at taking services closer to the people of the area.
It was created from the neighbouring Tarime District in Mara Region.
The district council needs new houses to accommodate 110 families that will be residing at the headquarter.
According to Mr Ngangaji, the National Housing Corporation (NHC) has also shown great interest to construct more staff houses in the area.
Construction of Rorya headquarters was delayed after residents in the area were engaged on a prolonged debate on the location.
The competing areas were Utegi, Randa and Shirati. The row was ended by President Jakaya Kikwete after naming Ingiri juu village as the headquarters of the district.
